As is the case with most model Engineering Societies there is a majority interest in the building and running of model locomotives. It was not long therefore before approaches were made to Midlothian District Council with a view to finding a suitable location at which to build a locomotive track.

After a great deal of discussion Vogrie Country park was offered and work commenced around 1986 on the construction of a section of 3½ and 5 inch gauge track. Shortly afterwards this was improved to include 7¼ gauge.

Over the next few years many hours were spent in extending and providing additional facilities to the track until it is probably one of the best ground level tracks in Scotland offering 2200ft of scenic circular route.
